「撮影」Accidental Icon - Style knows no limits

When I discovered “Accidental Icon” Lyn Slater on Instagram I was instantly hooked! This sense of style, the coolness yet smart choice of words.
On social media I’d describe her in one word: “GOALS!” Perhaps with a flexed muscle emoji behind.

「アクシデンタル・アイコン」リン・スレーター（Lyn Slater）さんをインスタで発見した瞬間、大好きになっちゃいました。
そのスタイル、そのかっこよさ、そして、その表現力。
彼女のことを一言で表現すれば、「目標」（がんばる筋肉ポーズの絵文字付で）。

We need more positive and powerful women who don’t care about society’s limitations when it comes to fashion. I am sure many people would love to dress more bold if it wasn’t for the fear of what their surroundings would think or say.
Just be yourself! That’s the message she sends out to the world.

ファッションの可能性は無限大で、社会の中かでこうあるべきっていう限界にとらわれないポジティブで強い女性が必要。周囲の人がなんて言うかを気にしないなら、もっと自由にファッションを選ぶ人は多いと思う。
あなた自身を表現してください。彼女はそんなメッセージを世界に発信している（・・・気がします　笑）。

Fashion should be fun! That’s what I say all the time. Same goes for kimono.
ファッションは楽しむべき。これは、わたしがいつも言ってることで、着物についても同じこと。

Last October when I went to New York I was dreaming of shooting Lyn in a cool kimono. Unfortunately my visit crossed with the busy New York Fashion Week so I never got a response.

2017年ニューヨークへ行った際、リンさんとカッコいい着物撮影をしたかったのですが、叶わなかったんです。わたしの滞在時期が、丁度、ニューヨークファッションウィークと重なり、うまく連絡が取れなかったんです。

Then a few weeks back I was scrolling through my instagram and saw a post of Lyn, saying she was headed to Tokyo. So you can bet what I did: Immediately sent her a mail again!
I was sure she would be too busy or just a number too big to work with me, so didn’t get my hopes up. However the next morning I woke up to a response and oh boy, the adrenaline was rushing through my veins ha! I’ve never jumped out of my futon so fast before.

数ヶ月前、インスタを見ていたら、リンさんが東京へ向かうと知りました。もちろん、即連絡を入れました（あきらめが悪い！笑）。
多分忙しいし、わたしのような小物（汗）と一緒になにかするってのは無いかなと思い、期待は抑えてました。連絡した翌朝、「返信アリ！」。アドレナリン上昇。布団から秒速で飛び出しちゃった。

Everything was quite last minute but worked out! Thanks also to Irwin, who agreed to shoot with me.
The haori jacket is from the Meiji period (over 100 years old), the python & leather kimono is designed and sewn by me and the Hannya mask obi is antique as well.

過密スケジュールの中でおこなったので、ギリギリのタイミングでしたが、すべてうまくいきました！羽織は明治のもので100年くらいのもの（？と推定。間違っていたらご指摘下さい）、私のデザインで自作したパイソン革着物、そして、般若の面の帯もアンティークでそろえてみました。

Let’s hear it from Lyn herself　リンさんにお話を伺いました！:

Tell us about you and your brand? 自己紹介、ブランド紹介をお願いします。

I am a professor of social work and I am also a cultural influencer. I started a fashion blog in 2014, called Accidental Icon.

ソーシャルワークの教授です。文化のインフルエンサーです。2014年から「Accidental Icon」というファッションブログを始めました。

How did you start your career (as model/blogger)?　どうやってモデル業、ブロガー（業？）を始めたのですか？

I was feeling restricted in academia in regard to how I could speak about issues I cared about and wanted to write more creatively and use visuals. I was told by many people I encountered that they really liked my style and that I should start a blog, so I did.

学術会での自分の表現方法以上の可能性を探ってみたかったんです。自分の関心あることについてとか、もっと創造的に物書きをしたかったし、もっと映像も使ってみたかったんです。多くの人から、私のスタイルについて賛同をうけ、ブログでも書いてみてはと進められました。だからブログを始めました。

Why are you so popular with SNS and all?　なんでそんなに人気があるのですか？

In my work as a professor and as a social worker I have been engaging and “influencing” others for a very long time. These skills made an easy transfer to social media. I am also very comfortable being myself and so it is easy to be authentic.

教授職として、そして、ソーシャルワーカーとして、長い間、大勢の方々にいかに「影響」を与えるかということに携わってきました。このスキルが、SNSでも生かせたんです。自分自身であることが大好きで、「本物」であることが簡単なんです。

What do you do to relax?　リラックスの仕方について教えて下さい。

I like to go to museums and take long walks.

美術館に行ったり、長距離の散歩するのが好きです。

What do you do on weekends? 週末の過ごし方は？

Shoot photos for my blog and spend time with family.

ブログのための写真をとったり、家族と時間を過ごします。

What is your future plan/projects? 将来のプランは？

I would like to do some upcycling projects but other than that I stay in the moment and just see what comes my way. I try not to be too planful.

アップサイクルのプロジェクトをしたいです。それ以外では、今をみつめ、何が来るかを静観します。計画はあまりたてないようにしてます。
