「夏の思い出 2018」Summer throwback – Bon dance, Awa odori and Yukata

The trees start changing their colours. A fresh breeze makes you want to wrap yourself in a cosy jacket. It's officially sweater weather. Autumn has arrived. Since I have a backlog of pictures from this Summer I'd love to share them here as my: Summer throwback! Bon dance, fireworks, Awa-odori and a lot of sweating in yukata. You probably know already that Japan has a lot of summer festivities to offer. And this year I swore to myself to not miss the fun Bon Odori...

Grand Canyon in Yukata

Last month I went to the United States for a bit - including Las Vegas, its nearby Grand Canyon and California. You probably already know me better - of course I did not go there in Western clothing! Why let the chance slip to wear kimono or at least yukata in such a scenic location? Since I could only travel with a tiny suitcase this time, bringing a full Japanese kimono outfit wasn't an option - but a yukata (cotton kimono)...

How to Yukata Pt.3: Sewing

※Continued from my previous article / 前回の記事の続きです。 The final step after dyeing is to turn this 12 meter long fabric bolt into a wearable item. That of course means cutting and sewing it. I am not giving an instruction of how to hand sew it in this post as it is way too complicated and lengthy (but maybe one day, who knows!). Also if you like more insights, check out my previous post about Wasai – The art of kimono sewing. Something I...

Kimono Hime Event

Currently we are looking for a new apartment to move into, that's why life has been super busy recently and I failed to blog. Also several people from overseas decided to come to Tokyo and there were several events so I had packed but fun weeks! One of said events was one I got my ticket for quite early and looked forward to for a while - The Kimono姫 event together with the musicians 黒色すみれ (kokushoku sumire) and CHOKO as a...

Bon Odori in Tsukiji

A week ago I went to a Bon Odori (Bon Dance) for the first time. Those traditional bon dance festivals are basically held in all bigger neighbourhoods, but I really wanted to see a big one, so I picked out the Tsukiji one in Tokyo. I arrived a little before the scheduled start of the shows and dance but there were already quite some people enjoying a nice summer day with family and friends, munching away on the matsuri (festival) food...

Kimono Styles July 2016

I regularly post my kimono coordinates on my Instagram & Twitter but fail to do so on my blog. So I thought I would show all the styles I wore in July here in a complete post. LET'S START ☆ For a meeting I chose a rather toned down summer kimono and spiced it up with a cute gold fish obi. The bag is from zoczoc and is made by artisans in a traditionally woven manner like for obi belts. No...
