「着物撮影in渋谷」Shibuya Kimono Photoshoot

A while back I got an enquiry from a super talented photographer named Saq Imtiaz, who shoots a lot for VOGUE in Paris as well. He was briefly in Tokyo and we squeezed in a two-outfit Kimono shoot even he barely slept for a week. Before the shoot I was out hunting for locations but actually on the day, the photographers schedule was really tight so we only could manage to shoot at the (a little too generic but famous) Shibuya...

Fashion Week Tokyo SS17

Last week it was time for Tokyo Fashion Week again. Numerous designers from Japan and overseas showed their collections for Spring/Summer 2017 on the runway and in showrooms in Tokyo. As every season I also went to see some shows, however I was a little more selective this year because it actually is quite tiring and I was not too healthy.. The main shows were held in Shibuya's Hikarie building as every year - however the former "Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo" changed...

Fashion Week Tokyo AW16/17 – JOTARO SAITO

Today I went to see the new AW 16/17 kimono collection of JOTARO SAITO from Kyoto. After seeing his show last year, I was super excited about his new line of designs. Especially that he creates slightly "darker" kimono is what I love and the fact that he combines the very traditional art of wafuku with modern designs or small modern modifications which are not too much. For today I picked a dark green antique tsukesage kimono with an...

Fashion Week Tokyo AW16/17 – writtenafterwards

After the Jotaro Saito show I was heading to Omotesando to see the new collection of writtenafterwards which was held in Omotesando Hills - a high class fashion mall in Harajuku area. Known for its creative designs I was eagerly awaiting the shows start and it. was. beyond! When the first models hobbled and creeped through the runway I knew this is going to be fabulous. Unfortunately I didn't have the best seat but could still enjoy the awesome designs and...

Fashion Week Tokyo AW16/17 – NGUYEN CONG TRI

On Tuesday I was invited to see the -Japan meets Vietnamese fashion- runway show with featured Vietnamese fashion designer Nguyen Cong Tri. I chose a casual outfit consisting of a snug Hoodie worn below a mens kimono with Hokusai wave print and Dr.Martens boots. (Picture taken by Matthew Sperzel Photography) To be honest I went there with rather low expectations (you know, usually the more famous designers show their collections later on the day). Or lets put it this way: I did...

Fashion Week Tokyo SS16 – h.NAOTO & YOSHIKIMONO

h.NAOTO The final day of Fashion Week I went to see the show of h.NAOTO in a warehouse like location in Chiba. Starting off with beautiful renaissance like goth dresses h.NAOTO tapped right into what one would expect. I was actually more surprised to see many ready to be worn simple print shirts and simple coats to be presented. This SS16 has Naoto experimenting with print graphics (the tights were just wonderful!) and military style. Also he put more detail on accessories...
