London Kimono ventures

What a rollercoaster of emotions we are currently trapped in, with all the COVID-19 drama, am I right? Since my return I have been basically locking myself into the apartment. Witnessing Japan's "We won't get a Corona outbreak!" to the unravelling of events "Cases are spreading, please stay home!". Sadly most countries had the same mindset of not taking it serious until it was too late, so here things are starting to get bad day by day whilst Europe...

SALZ Tokyo Zouri

Last autumn I designed and had my own and first SALZ Tokyo zouri sandals made. After testing them several months I'm still super excited, so I wanted to properly show them here: Even it sounds like what everybody would say who made their own item - they are genuinely the most comfy and favourite zouri I own now!! At first I was a little concerned if I went too overboard with the high wedge design but surprisingly they are super lightweight...

Sumire Ishioka」Tweed Kimono – a dream come true

For a while I have been circulating fabric houses and dreaming of making kimono with "western" fabric - including velvet, lace, cotton and tweed. One lovely woman made my dreams come true: SUMIRE ISHIOKA This young but talented designer worked many years on searching and designing the perfect tweed for splendid kimonos. I visited her showroom in Daikanyama, Tokyo with a friend to see the new tweed kimono collection. © Sumire Ishioka Most of the tweed is designed by her and woven in Japan. It...

How to: Space Invader Kimono

For a while now I really wanted a half-half coloured kimono (aka. Unfortunately they are very hard to find and if you come across one, they are usually pretty expensive. Being as poor as I am right now my only chance was to make something myself. However making a kimono from scratch seems kinda scary - so I thought to myself: What could be the easiest way to make such kimono? Right! Cut two kimono in half and sew the...

Robe Japonica – Designer mens kimono

A few months ago I stumbled over this new shop in Harajuku which drew my attention due to a kimono being displayed right at the entrance. I bumped my friend in the side and pulled her into said shop which turned out to be a next level mens kimono design boutique! Robe Japonica The first sight after entering were see through geta (Japanese sandals) made of plexiglass aka. acrylic. I remembered that those already sparked my interest on Twitter, but I didn't...
