「夏の思い出 2018」Summer throwback – Bon dance, Awa odori and Yukata

The trees start changing their colours. A fresh breeze makes you want to wrap yourself in a cosy jacket. It’s officially sweater weather. Autumn has arrived. Since I have a backlog of pictures from this Summer I’d love to share them here as my: Summer throwback! Bon dance, fireworks, Awa-odori and a lot of sweating in yukata. You probably know already that Japan has a lot of summer festivities to offer. And this year I swore to myself to not miss the fun Bon Odori [...]

Happy New Kimono Year!

Happy New Year also on my blog! Thanks so much for reading in the past year and here is to hoping you are having an awesome 2018 – hopefully in kimono! My start in the year was rather unspectacular as I got pretty sick on new years eve and just spent it watching TV with my Japanese family (and killing a bottle of Sangria by myself.. to kill the germs of course haha) After the new year rang we went out to [...]

Kimono workshops in NYC

During and after the Fudangi exhibition I wrote about in my last post, I also scheduled my first time ever kimono related workshops and some photo shoots. (Because how often do you have the chance to capture the NYC skyline with kimono?) (着物姿をニューヨークで撮るならインパクトあるかなと思って・・笑) Prior to my trip I asked my followers on social media what kind of workshop they would like to attend when I am in New York / what they need help with in regards of kimono. And the majority [...]

Fudangi Kimono in New York

In October I travelled to New York to take part in an exhibition as well as hosted some kimono workshops and photo shoots while in the city. Almost a year ago I was asked if I’d like to contribute and style two kimono outfits for a small exhibition curated by Spree Kingyo (from Kingyo Kitsuke) in Germany and Yuki Hamada (from Kimono Modern) in Japan. I was super excited about this opportunity. The event was held at the Globus Washitsu (Traditional Japanese [...]

「きものサローネ2017」Kimono Salone

Like last year, I also joined the Kimono Salone event in Nihonbashi again. Because it was just before my New York trip I am super late to put everything into a proper blog post – but the pictures from the fashion show are too nice to keep them a secret. Kimono Salone is a kimono event where many kimono brands and artisans gather to show their new collections as well a chance to learn and try out some traditional craft. [...]

Dirndl vs. Kimono Photoshoot

A few weeks back I had another fun photo shoot with a more complex theme and location. Also I upped the number of models to two! As the name suggests it actually was no competition yet I came up with this idea inspired by the ever boiling “cultural appropriation” topic in the U.S. Although it almost never happened, I did get called out on social media that I should not wear kimono as I am not [...]
