As always I am way behind in blogging about previous kimono styling works. But let me show two of my favorite projects of the past summer. YY -waiwai- For the ensemble YY Japan I was asked to direct and style two looks for their artist pictures. Being a huge fan of their work, this was a great honor to me. YY consists of the talented Koto (traditional Japanese instrument similar to a harp) player "Asuka" and DJ / beat maker "Wocasi"....

Photo shoots from autumn

Currently there is still quite a backlog of kimono photo shoots and events I went to and haven't written about yet so I will post a bit about stuff I did back in October/November. One last minute, yet rather difficult shoot to execute (in terms of location and props) was with the popular Russian model and artist Ellen Sheidlin aka. Sheidlina. With an incredible current following of 3.7 Million people on Instagram I was super intrigued that she wanted to work...

Kimono photo shoots in NYC

For my duration in New York I also organized some fun kimono photo shoots with the city as a back drop. The first shoot was with the personality Candy Ken who is a singer and model with a strong message for gender equalization and freedom of expressing yourself. He loves Hello Kitty and pink items and strives to draw attention in order to spread a positive message worldwide. Although he doesn't live in New York our schedules magically matched up and...

Kimono workshops in NYC

During and after the Fudangi exhibition I wrote about in my last post, I also scheduled my first time ever kimono related workshops and some photo shoots. (Because how often do you have the chance to capture the NYC skyline with kimono?) (着物姿をニューヨークで撮るならインパクトあるかなと思って・・笑) Prior to my trip I asked my followers on social media what kind of workshop they would like to attend when I am in New York / what they need help with in regards of kimono. And the majority...

Kimono flapper girl photo shoot

Before the ones in Kyoto, I actually had my first own produced kimono photo shoot last December. The idea occurred to me after my friend and I visited a private open house exhibit in October 2016. It was a stunning house, previously owned by a photographer named Nakamura. It had been well preserved in its old style including the interior. It felt like if I had travelled back in time. The family even allowed us to browse through albums of the...

Kimono photoshoots in Kyoto

At the beginning of this month I went to Kyoto for some work and photo shoots. Well, and once there I also have to eat all the delicious things in my favourite restaurants. Like eel, yuba and warabimochi.. This kimono was actually handed down to me from my husbands grandma. I love it! The patterns are so unusual. Wearing it with a modern lace obi and my self-made union jack obidome. I was super careful to not catch a cold, but over night...
