SALZ Kimono Shirt Collection

Hey! Hopefully you're having a great week? Just wanted to announce a new idea to showcase the beautiful collaborative images I did in the past year with many international creators. As you know, I frequently style kimono photo shoots. Some just as an art form and in hope to inspire others to view kimono as a fun fashion item. Wearing kimono comes with a lot of challenges and can be intimidating, so we thought: How about printing kimono art on a shirt? [...]

Kamakura – off the beaten track

Last Summer I visited Kamakura again after many years. Since I already saw the main tourist attractions various times (big Buddha statue, large Shrine..) this time, seeing uncrowded and not as familiar locations was my goal. For those of you who aren't familiar, Kamakura used to be the capital of Japan in 1192 "the Kamakura period". The city is located along the coast close to Yokohama and perfect for a day trip from Tokyo. Kamakura - Off the beaten [...]

Kimono cleaning & maintenance workshop visit

Ever wondered how kimono are cleaned or maintained? A while back I had a pleasure to visit ANDO TAKASHI Dye Factory - a traditional company which does professional cleaning and restoring of kimono as well as new made to order kimono ("ANDO"). Curious as to how such an operation may look from the inside I paid them a visit. The staff of ANDO showed me around and explained what they do. [Basically] Kimono (silk or other delicate fabrics) can't be cleaned [...]

Photo shoot throwback 2018

While I have been busy with rebuilding the site and life in general - this blog was on hold. This year as well, I have been blessed with all these chances to work with creative people for collaboration shoots! So let me recap shortly to some of the images created. In order to not let the post get too long and boring, I decided to split them up a little into multiple posts. 。。 - 琴葉 - In the early spring I had a [...]
