Flim Flam Revue x SALZ Tokyo

In November I had my first ever crossover collaboration in terms of kimono.
The Burlesque dance and show group Flim Flam Revue came all the way from Australia to have some shows in Japan.

I previously met Cath at the Lady Petrova Pop up shop in Harajuku about a half year ago and she remembered that I was “doing something with kimono” and contacted me if I would be interested to dress up all the ladies for a fun collab.
That sounded like a fun new experience so I said yes.

Before the scheduled shoot day I coordinated kimono outfits for each of the ladies from my inventory based on a single photograph and approximate body height/measurements. I was very nervous and anxious but it was funny how well my style ideas fitted to the ladies I meant to style. Some said “Oh thats my favourite color/pattern, how did you know that?” or for the girl which looked very classy on the photograph I picked a bit more rock outfit and it turns out it totally underlines her personality apart from the burlesque stage. A very satisfying outcome.

The ladies then got ready doing their own makeup and hair while I started dressing one by one of the 6 ladies in kimono.
I was very nervous since I only dressed someone else then myself once before so didn’t have much knowledge and practice and there were 5 ladies with more and less curvy bodies plus a super tall drag queen to wrap in kimono. Further I was fighting with pertussis (whooping cough) at the time which partially had me coughing until I couldn’t breathe.

But I managed to dress them all within my own set time limit and was pretty happy with the outcome.
(However looking at the pictures now 3 months later, I am a little embarrassed how floppy the obi were tied – I drastically improved my kitsuke (kimono dressing) skills in the past months since then I’d say.)

I hope you enjoy the pictures of the Flim Flam Revue ladies in kimono.
The colors of the kimono were chosen to create a rainbow – white, yellow, red, green, blue and black.

Thanks again to Cath, Willow, Robbie, Honey, Adele and Dawn for the fun shoot.

Please have a look, they will tour Japan probably again this year!
